Dear members, friends and colleagues.
We hope that you and your family are safe and well.
As you know, the EATCB congress for 2020 in Gdansk was cancelled, and our plan was to postpone this meeting until 2021. However, by the end of 2020, the future situation relating to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021 was still very uncertain. In addition, according to our bylaws, we must organize a General Meeting during 2021, and hold elections for the board.
For these reasons we have decided to organize our 29th Congress this year, from 22-23 of October, in a virtual format. We hope that this meets with your approval and that you will be able to attend the meeting. The structure will be very similar to that of previous face to face congresses, with round tables, oral presentations and poster sessions.
The agenda will address current ‘hot topics’, such as COVID and the revision of the EU Tissue and Cell legislation, together with traditional sessions focusing on specific types of tissues and cells. In order to reduce disruption during the meeting, the presentations will be recorded in advance and shown in real time during the conference, with live question and answer sessions that attendees can participate in. They will also be available to view on the virtual congress platform after the congress. We are also planning to organize workshops to discuss different approaches to tissue and cell banking protocols, and to hear about what is new in the field.
Sponsors will also be very welcome, and we are exploring innovative new methods by which they can participate in the meeting and present different technologies and products to us.
On behalf of the EATCB board, our best regards and please take care of yourselves and your families. We hope to see you (at least virtually!) in October
Jacinto Sánchez Ibáñez
President of the EATCB
